Fashion Blogger Garance Dore Attacks Plus-Size Trend as Unhealthy, Unflattering

Vogue loves 'em. V loves 'em. And even Karl Lagerfeld loves 'em (finally). But it sounds like not everyone is rushing to embrace curves.

Effortlessly chic French fashion blogger Garance Dore has hit out against the plus-size craze, calling it unhealthy and gimmicky, Sky News reports.

Dore, whose gigs as a fashion illustrator, street style photographer and girlfriend of Scott "The Sartorialist" Schuman have made her a favorite Fashion Week fixture, made the controversial comments in an interview with the AAP, according to Sky.

"I think it's too much and almost naive of the fashion industry, because it would be nice in a few years that the idea of different body shapes is normal, but right now it's not quite there yet," she reportedly said.
"It should not be such a big deal to show women with different bodies, but sometimes it's treated like a bit of joke, or for shock, like the plus-size models on the runway in the UK fashion week."

She's referring to the Mark Fast show, which saw curvy catwalkers like Crystal Renn and Hayley Morley strut down the runway.

The blogger also "weighed" in on curve-themed magazine issues from the likes of V Magazine and French Elle.
"It's not such a good thing to show plus-size because it's not really physically healthy and not always flattering to fashion," she sniffed.

Ouch. Sounds like curve-dissing designer Rosemary Masic has a new recruit.

We can see how Dore would be wary of designers simply using heavier models to get publicity, but the industry isn't magically going to grow up overnight.

And as for dismissing plus-size models as "not really physically healthy"? Last time we checked, neither was starving yourself to fit into a designer dress.

Garance Dore is 1) completely idiotic and 2) obviously has an over-inflated sense of whoever the hell she is in the fashion industry. I don't really care what she thinks and I'm sure no one else does either. Laughable. What a slag.

Typical, who does this woman think she is??? And actually there's not a whole lot of proof that being curvy is unhealthy!

Garance Dore was quick to correct (backpedal?) these comments: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/04/21/garance-dore-sets-the-rec_n_546733.html

"It's not such a good thing to show plus-size because it's not really physically healthy" vs "I never said that plus-size models are unhealthy"? It's all very strange.
