OOTD: Anniversary Dreamy and my PrincessDivas Makeovers

Before I go on to my outfit... I wanted to take a minute to show my little angels (Mis Angelitas). I cut and styled their hair today. Here are the before and after pics...

The first row is the before pics. And the last row is how they looked when all the work was done.

Mari (4yr old) - Has a hatred for hair and having her hair done. She screams and hollers until I want to cut all my hair off.

Yaz (6yr old) - Loves her hair, and although it is thick and curly, she still wants to wear it out. I texterized her hair (trust me, I had no other choice) and then trimmed some dead ends. She is estatic.

Now as for me, when I preparing for my pre-anniversary day of errands(its tomorrow), I decided that pink would be an awesome way to say… I Love You! As it is one of my favorite colors (seriously I have so many, who can keep up) but I just wanted to look nice. We didn’t go anywhere special, but I could tell that hubby was happy & proud to be with me everywhere we went. Also, I felt so pretty… and that’s what really counts.

We all deserve pretty days like today, I have to admit I'm blessed with a kinda high confidence so my “unpretty” days are few and far between. But today was different, I felt… aglow… does that make sense? Have you ever had a day where pretty just didn’t seem to fully express how great you feel?

OOTD: Zebra Summers Eve. Taking On My Body Issues

Today I enjoyed a lovely walk home in the warm summer evening with my sweetheart.
Bliss!

I faced my insecurities about my body that always get to me this time of year
and went out to enjoy the summer in my latest project; a black and greyish blue zebra print dress that I have reworked completely.

I played up the dress with my new studded sandals, studded bag,
a fringed keychain used as a neckless, white ring and black glasses.

Here`s how the dress looked when I bought it at H&M.

With this dress it was all about the printed fabric of the dress for me,
because all though I would love to get away with the flowy maxidress-shape...

..I really can`t:

(Hello treetrunk!) This really doesn`t work on my hourglass shape,
my waist and legs disappear in dresses that are straight with high necklines and as wide as my hips.

So, I got to work, chopping and tailoring the dress, and I quite like the result:

I created an asymmetrical hemline, tailored the dress to suit my curves by taking it in at the back
and changed the neckline completely to balance my proportions better.
It`s just one of those things, there are lots of shapes I can work, and there are some that I just can`t.

Also, I`m done hiding my body, getting out there in the summer heat is hard enough if I`m not also gonna feel like I`m not really embracing my curves. Mind you, I do struggle with this a great deal, but I just have to keep moving forward, overriding that voice in my head telling me negative things about my self, and focusing on the fun and peace that self acceptance brings.
Be great if this was as easily done as said, no?
Another one of my body issues have always been my legs and feet. My tac now is simply wearing lovely shoes that I feel good in! :D

I toughened the dress up with my studded sandals from Økonomisko:

Sending you all good thoughts and wishing you lovely summer eves free of worries!

xoxo Anika

Designer Spotlight: NaKIMuli

We here at Skorch set our standards to those of Elle, Vogue and other high fashion magazines. With that said, our Fashion Editor, Bella Styles, who is a fashion stylist/plus-size model (www.bellastyles.net), is always on the look-out for new designers and unique fashions. This month Bella Styles has discovered the design house of NaKIMuli by Tennille McMillan. NaKIMuli is an exclusively limited quantity-produced ready-to-wear clothing line for young women in both regular and plus-sizes. Bella recently did a photoshoot with Maz Imageworks featuring the designs of NaKIMuli. "The material of the dress felt like second skin and accented my curves in all the right places", says Bella. What makes this line stand out is when you look at the front of the two-tone dresses you're already in awe at the beauty, but then you turn around and there's another design, ahh, pure genious. The leggings are also two-tone and you're sure to be the center of attention when you walk into the room. But not only does NaKIMuli do apparel, there are also cute dookie bracelets and exotic earrings. You are sure to become a fan after only 5 minutes on her site. Please check out her designs. MEDIA RELEASE: SKORCH Wins 'Plus E-Zine of the Year' at Full-Figured Fashion Week

Unveils Makeover, New Staff

WORLDWIDE, JUNE 1 2010: SKORCH Magazine - the #1 fashion and lifestyle publication for sizes 12 to 28 – has been voted by the public as the Plus E-Zine of the Year at the 2010 Full-Figured Fashion Week. The announcement came at the same time as SKORCH underwent a changing of the guard, with owner and founder Jessica Kane (of Kane Kreative) giving editorial control of the magazine to Cali Ann Lee (Editor-In-Chief) whose first order of business was to promote long-time reader and supporter Jessica O'Brien as Managing Editor.

The publication has also attracted new talent, including new video host Rosie Mercado who was named the Face of Full-Figured Fashion Week. Rosie is a model with Keke Dillard's House of Curves and is the owner/make-up artist for Miss Bellisima. Additionally, Kim Flonnoy is pulling double duty as the newest Beauty Editor in addition to her 'Sassy Sexy Money' column.

Whilst the magazine itself will retain its original title, the network of social media profiles has been dubbed xoxo skorch, announced as "the new place to experience everything SKORCH".

The changes have already garnered tremendous exposure, including a partnership with Macy's to present a series of Macy's Woman events. Two such events have already been held at the River Oaks, Tuttle Crossing and St. Louis Galleria stores. Macy's Woman offered fashion advice, free fittings and complimentary gifts. SKORCH has also partnered with The Curvy Revolution and the House of Curves to cast models for SKORCH The Runway, a Victoria's Secret style catwalk show coming in 2011.

In recent issues SKORCH has featured exclusive interviews with David Tutera (host of My Fair Wedding and Party Planner with David Tutera), Dirty Martini (renowned burlesque star) and upcoming interviews with Cy Frakes (star of TLC's King of the Crowns) and Tarina Tarantino (jewellery designer).

Jessica Kane will maintain peripheral involvement in SKORCH and is still a firm believer in its mission. Jessica: "SKORCH understands the limitless potential the internet and social networking allows women who crave fresh and fabulous fashion to stay on top of the latest trends, beauty advice and entertainment. Not since MODE has there been a publication to represent the majority of women who are size 12-28 who love dressing fabulous and refuse to wear substandard fashion."

Cali Ann Lee (Editor-In-Chief): "As the Editor-In-Chief for SKORCH it is my fashion pledge to bring you the very best in fashion, celebrity interviews and much more. I'm proud to be leading the forces behind SKORCH."

Jessica O'Brien (Managing Editor): "Being a part of SKORCH had been a dream of mine since 2007. I began as a fan and model hopeful, being introduced to the magazine by cover model Rasha Spindel. I know that it was a far away dream, but many times I posted on Facebook that I had big hopes to be a model for them. Never would I imagine that I would be sitting here, writing about how elated and proud I am to be SKORCH's new Managing Editor! I couldn't be more proud to represent SKORCH, and now be able to bring all of our amazing content to our readers/fans. Also, I know how much it meant to me to be featured by the magazine, being a plus-sized woman struggling to accept my body and shape. It is very surreal for me to be here and to think that now I am seeking out Dolls, models, etc. and able to help give them these opportunities to showcase their style and self esteem."

ABOUT SKORCH MAGAZINE: xoxo skorch showcases fashion for the majority, and although the team doesn't like to use the term "plus-size", the magazine endorses a body-positive message that women should strive to be the most beautiful, healthy and successful versions of themselves. The magazine's staff consists of women and men from across the globe, all of whom believe that the number printed on a clothing tag should not limit anybody wishing to look and feel good. In addition to current fashions, xoxo skorch's regular content covers many aspects of 'living large', including beauty, health and fitness, sex and relationships, finances, families and lifestyles.
