OOTD: Fancy Me and My Valentine

Since I was too busy lovin it up yesterday to post this I guess we could call this an Outfit Of Yesterday but that doesn’t have a cute little acronym, so it’s just not happening. Anyways, yesterday my wonderful partner Nightrider and I spent a lovely Valentine’s Day together. We spent a majority of the day lazing around, cuddling on the couch, watching reruns of Tabatha’s Salon Takeover and finally around 6pm got cleaned up and dressed up for our night out on the town. We planned a dinner at a local fondue restaurant, one of the more fancy shmancy eateries in Boise. Since we were going someplace nice I decided to pull out my best little black dress that I have only worn one other time but absolutely LOVE!

This great black satin bubble hem dress came from Torrid and is a size 18. It fits like a glove and luckily enough fits very tightly and structured in the bust so I was able to go sans bra for the evening (I hate a strapless bra so this is a WIN!) I paired it with black and white plaid size 8 peep-toe pumps that were from Torrid as well. I do have to tell you that these are the most comfortable heels I have ever owned.

I took this simple but classic look and added a pearl necklace and earring set that I got as a gift from my mother before she got married last year. Since it was a bit cold out, for the time in the car I wore a simple black cardigan and added on two sparkling rhinestone pendants that came with another Torrid dress I own. This cardigan looked nice but did tone down the whole look. It served it’s function though keeping me warm enough outside but it came right off once we got to the restaurant.

Nightrider had reserved us a private table in what the restaurant referred to as “Lover’s Lane” and we had a great night with a four course fondue meal that left me feeling as fancy as I looked. Overall a great Valentine’s date with a great look!

Valentine's day is coming and everyone wants some pretty undergarments. I
love being fancy every day, but certain days of the year, like Valentine's
day I will pull out the full arsenal. These three websites are having
beautiful valentine's day sales.

I am have been a big fan of Evans.co.uk for years. The two things that I
must note with them is the sizing guide and the price conversion. Please
check the size guide for your bras and panties as this company is housed in
the UK. I have a penchant for old school styles in bras and panties. Very
retro 1950's.
Torrid.com has some naughties that are definitely worth taking a look at. I
love their website and it is easy to navigate and the sales are fantastic!
Check them out and let me know what you picked up!
**UPDATE 2/11/10: Get 10% Off Any Order at Torrid by using the code 10OFFTD21**
HipsandCurves.com was voted Instyle’s Best of the Web 2009 and for good reason. They are devoting an entire section to Valentine’s Day inspired underpinnings under $20!
Bedheadpjs.com has some beautiful pajamas. Having one pair of the jammies
myself, I can attest to their quality. You can get a good deal if you sign up for their emails.

Wallet Pop - Lovers giving less this Valentine's Day

Lovers giving less this Valentine's Day
Josh Smith

A new survey of by PayPal confirms that people are spending less on each other this year than they did before the economy took a crash but that doesn't mean they have stopped giving gifts altogether.

The majority of men who took part in the survey reported that they wished they could give more to their special someone this year which may be due to the fact that nearly half of consumers will spend less than $50 this year. Thankfully, only 28% of women reported that they would like to receive more on Valentine's Day, so for the most part couples should be able to enjoy each others company on Feb. 14.

PayPal's Can't Buy Me Love survey also showed that George Clooney and Megan Fox topped the list of celebrities you would want Cupid to hit with an arrow. It's not all love though, Kanye West better work on a Valentine's Day auto-tuned hit otherwise he might be spending the day alone as he was voted the celebrity that people would least like to see on Valentine's Day.

Another interesting bit of information from the survey revealed the differences in valentine spending between single people and those in relationships which is shown on the graph below.
If you're planning to spend less this year then you're in luck. Not only are retailers trying to get as much of your $50 as they can, but PayPal and Bing Cashback are upping the discounts to make you look good this year.

PayPal has many discounts for Valentine's Day gifts including the following:
  • 20% off and a free vase at ProFlowers
  • 25% off on gifts at RedEnvelope
  • $50 off purchases of $300 or more at Zales.com
  • 10% off at Blue Nile
  • 20% off of a six-month subscription from eHarmony
  • Up to 55% off retail rates from Hotwire
  • And more
PayPal is also holding a Twitter Scavenger hunt on Feb. 13 to direct participants to secret locations in Chicago, New York and San Francisco for a chance to win prizes such as netbooks, diamond necklaces and a year of free flowers from ProFlowers. PayPal is also running another online only Twitter contest for those who don't want to run around the city.

Bing is also turning up the heat on Bing Cashback deals for Valentine's Day including:
  • 30% Bing cashback from Ice.com
  • 30% Bing cashback from Flora Flora
  • 25% Bing cashback from Ghirardelli Chocolates
  • 20% Bing cashback from Gap, including Old Navy and Banana Republic
  • 20% Bing cashback from Sephora and Beauty.com
  • And more

Celebrating plus size beauty for Valentines- Adipositivity

Posted by: Marie Denee

If you have not heard of the Adipositivity Project, plus size beauties I invite you to take a look at one photographer who artfully highlights the beauty in the curves! What a better time (Valentine’s Day)

to share with you the site that professes a profound love for one’s body and the beauty in plus size frames!

Knowing Miss Substantia Jones had her Valentine’s Series kicking off, I asked her to share her inspiration and share some photos of her latest collection! Please read on as she shares her perspective of art, beuty, and the plus size woman….

The idea came during our first year, from the beau of one of our models. He suggested I add photos of women with their partners. A celebration of fat love. I think the little bugger just wanted to drop trou for the camera. I was instantly enamored of the idea, and thought I’d run it during the lusty month of May (cue Camelot). Then someone suggested what should have been obvious. Valentine’s Day.

I knew a single day wouldn’t do it, figured a week was about right. Turns out two weeks could barely contain all the plump PDA. Now, from the beginning of February through the 14th, the Adipositivity Project hosts the Daily Valentine Special, each day featuring a different image of a fat women with her significant other. And that model’s beau who conjured up the idea? Became the first male Adiposer.

I had a tough time last year finding enough willing couples of color, queer couples, non-cisgendered participants, and fat men. That got a bit easier this year, and my hope is that next year it’ll be easier still.

To those who complain about the stresses and assumptions a traditional Valentine’s Day puts on people, I say bah. Love and human connections are vital to living a happy life, and setting aside one day each year to salute romantic love (or allow others to) is perfectly fine with me. Don’t allow a simple calendar notation to kick your ass! One shouldn’t be afraid to co-opt the holiday, make it conform to your own definition of it, rather than feeling pressured to fit your status into some mold created by Hallmark.

Personally, I’m old school. Chocolates, flowers, trashy lingerie choked by maribou. And a handmade card can melt my heart. Hell, even a wildly inappropriate piece of schlock from the greeting card rack at the 7-11 check-out will get the job done. – Substantia Jones

I am enamored with Substantia and her mission, project, and talent! If you wish to learn more about Adipositivity, the project, or the woman behind the lens, please visit Adipositivity now!
